Katherine Jackson Still Trying to Gain Control of Michael's Estate

Michael Jackson’s parents filed papers last week asking the Los Angeles probate court to give Katherine Jackson (but not Michael’s father) authority to manage the singer’s estate under the California Independent Administration of Estates Act. The Court has already appointed John Branca and John McClain as the estate’s executors – at least until an August 3rd hearing.

Just days before this latest effort, Katherine Jackson asked the court to rule that her objecting to that appointment would not be considered to be a contest of Michael’s will. Her lawyer, Londell McMillan, says she has no plans to contest the will. Nor has she, according to McMillan, decided whether to object to the appointment of Branca and McClain.

Katherine’s attorney says all that Katherine Jackson wants is “a seat at the table.” That’s an interesting statement since the Court on July 6, when it named Branca and McClain as administrators, specifically ordered that until the August 3rd hearing , the two must consult with her in any major business decisions. Back then her attorney said he was “relatively pleased” with that decision. Obviously in the intervening couple weeks, he has become less pleased.

As we said in an earlier article, Jackson’s estate promises to be a long-term annuity for all the attorneys involved. While Michael chose people outside the family to manage (and therefore control) his estate, his parents obviously want control. Maybe Jackson knew his family well and thought it best that they not be involved?
